Miami Beach’s signature district is the Art Deco District in South Beach, with Ocean Drive as its front row. The city says Miami Beach has the world’s largest collection of Art Deco buildings, more than 800 properties built between 1923 and 1943. The National Register of Historic Places lists the area as the Miami Beach Architectural District, added on May 14, 1979, after preservationist Barbara Capitman and the Miami Design Preservation League campaigned to save it.
