Miami Beach homes on city service get garbage pickup twice a week by street number and recycling every Wednesday. Sanitation Division: 305-673-7616.

Last checked Oct. 9, 2026. Facts on this page come from the City of Miami Beach Public Works Sanitation Division and the city’s Resident Guide.

The City of Miami Beach contracts its residential trash pickup to Waste Connections of Florida, which has held the contract since Jan. 1, 2019. The city’s Sanitation Division answers questions and handles complaints. City service covers single-family homes and small buildings. Apartment and condo buildings with nine units or more use a private hauler and should call that company for pickup days and bulk items.

Who to call

Garbage pickup days

Household garbage is collected twice a week from the back or side yard, not the curb. Your days depend on which numbered street you live near:

Where you live Garbage pickup days
1 Street to 41 Street Monday and Thursday
42 Street to 67 Street Tuesday and Friday
68 Street to 87 Street Wednesday and Saturday

The rules, from the city’s residential garbage page:

  • Cans or bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Only trash inside a bag or can is taken.
  • Old paint, gasoline and other chemicals do not go in the garbage (see hazardous waste below).

Recycling every Wednesday

Recycling is the law in Miami Beach: every property must have a single-stream recycling program. For single-family homes and buildings of eight units or less on city garbage service, recyclables are collected every Wednesday at the curb, according to the city’s Resident Guide. Everything goes in one cart, unsorted.

What goes in the cart, per the city’s recycling page:

  • Paper: newspapers, magazines, catalogs, mail and office paper
  • Cardboard, flattened: shipping boxes, cereal boxes and gift boxes
  • Plastic bottles and jugs with narrow necks, caps off, numbered 1 through 7
  • Drink boxes and milk and juice cartons
  • Glass food and drink containers (clear, brown and green)
  • Aluminum and steel cans

Keep out: plastic bags, foam (Styrofoam), batteries, light bulbs, mirrors, window glass, ceramics, gas cylinders and household chemicals. For a recycling cart, call the Sanitation Division at 305-673-7616.

Clothes, shoes and other textiles can be dropped off any time at bins outside Fire Station 3, 5303 Collins Ave., and Fire Station 4, 860 69 St.

Bulk trash pickup

Bulk pickup is by appointment only. Call Waste Connections of Florida at 786-515-2726 and keep the confirmation number. Each property gets six free bulk pickups a year, according to the city’s bulk waste page. After the sixth, the Resident Guide says, more pickups can be booked at $20 per cubic yard.

Bulk waste includes furniture (sofas, chairs, mattresses), appliances such as stoves, water heaters and refrigerators with the doors removed, carpet cut to 6 feet or less, drywall and lumber up to 5 feet long or 40 pounds, and large cuttings that will not fit in a can or a 4-foot bundle. It does not include tree removal or land clearing debris, demolition waste, tires, batteries, car parts, paint, boats or any contractor’s work.

Put bulk items out no more than 24 hours before the scheduled pickup. The city says violations bring fines from $50 to $1,000, plus the cost of removal if the city has to haul the trash away.

Free bulk drop-off weekends

On the first weekend of every month, residents can take bulk trash, free, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. to:

  • 140 MacArthur Causeway (Terminal Island)
  • 75 Street and Dickens Avenue

The remaining 2026 dates are Nov. 7-8 and Dec. 5-6. Bring photo ID with a Miami Beach address, or a utility bill with a photo ID. No chemicals, tires, paint or car parts.

Yard trash and the Green Waste Facility

Yard trash (branches, grass clippings and palm fronds) is picked up with your garbage if it is bagged, canned or tied in bundles. Bundles must be under 50 pounds and no longer than 4 feet, with limbs no thicker than 4 inches, and no more than eight bags. Put it at the curb no sooner than 24 hours before 7 a.m. on your pickup day.

Residents can also drop off green waste free at the city’s Green Waste Facility, 2800 Meridian Ave., open Monday through Saturday and closed Sunday. Bring proof of residency. Landscape companies pay $20 per cubic yard.

Hazardous waste

The city funds three household hazardous waste events a year at the surface lot at 40 Street and Chase Avenue, where residents can also drop off some electronics and shred documents. The last 2026 event was Aug. 30. The city’s Rising Above hazardous waste page says the 2027 dates have not been released yet. The city’s chemical waste page lists the Miami-Dade County facilities that take household chemicals the rest of the year.

Holidays

The city posts holiday changes on its holiday trash collection page. Last Christmas Day there was no garbage pickup for the 1 Street to 41 Street area and no make-up day; service resumed on the next scheduled day. Recycling was not affected, and New Year’s Day was a normal pickup day. Check the page before each holiday, because the affected area changes with the day of the week the holiday falls on.

Single-family homes can put Christmas trees at the curb any time in January, or drop them at 2800 Meridian Ave.

What this means for you

  • Find your street number in the table above; that sets your two garbage days.
  • Recycling goes out Wednesday, whatever your garbage days are.
  • Book bulk pickups by phone; items left out without an appointment can bring a fine.
  • Living in a large condo? Your building’s private hauler sets the schedule, not the city.
